You’d never guess it, but these big toys for big boys were at the height of their design during the 1970s – by sheer chance. Mechanics and team members – not designers or marketing strategists – adorned racecars with all of those flashy stripes, logos, numbers and colors prevalent at any Formula 1 race today. After compiling more than 100 examples of sleek cars from this glory age, Go Faster-author Sven Völker takes us for a joy ride at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart for a whip-fast lesson in competitive war paint, visual anarchy and piggish car designs.

Sisu stickers are here!!!!

FINALLY! After several weeks of designing and production, the much anticipated Sisu stickers are in stock. They only cost a dollar which means even the poorest of you can afford one or two. Plus for the first 25 orders I’ll be including a free Sisu Button. I don’t have very many of these things, so order up!

What the hell does “Sisu” mean, you ask? “Sisu” is a Finnish term loosely translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. “Sisu” is best known within the rally racing community and the ever present need to ‘drive with guts‘.

Rearranged the office.

I don’t know if its just me or designers in general, but I have a never ending urge for a change of scenery. And its since the office has looked the same since we moved in last year, I felt a change was due. Truth be told, I rearranged it a couple of weeks ago and forgot to post pics on here. Never the less, you can see what it used to look like here.

New goal.

I could probably use the excuse of waiting till the first of the year for this goal, but why wait. The new goal is to start posting a new creative idea every weekday for a year. It can be a photograph, video, sketches, concept, design…. whatever. Using this technique will help me push my creative limits to the next level.

I had a few extra pieces of vinyl left over from the Slide Style windshield banner and my sketchbook just looked too plain. So yes, even my sketchbooks get vinyl wrapped.

As much as I love the desk that Amanda got me, I have drastically out grown it. So I took over her desk and utilized the fold-out table we used to use at drift events. It’ll do until I can get a nicer, larger desk; perhaps one from IKEA.

Sneak peak of the XS Power SEMA Booth

Here’s a quick peek at the SEMA backdrop I designed for XS Power. Keep in there’s still plastic wrap around it to protect it during transport. If you are going to be at SEMA, but sure to stop by the booth and shake our hand.
On a more personal note, I’ll keep my opinions to myself as to how I think it turned out.

New chrisRhoad.com design!

The old chrisRhoad.com design just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Additionally, a lot of people (who apparently are still stuck in the ice age) still use Internet Explorer (looking at you MartyMartyMarty). And well, the old site design wouldn’t load in Internet Explorer.

As for this design, Im still working on a few features (ie the new gallery) along with a different layout of the Vids page. But for the most part its in tact and operates just fine. Let me know if you see anything out of place or that doesn’t properly.
