The car is coming along nicely, especially with the new seat installed. I had much more control of the car which is a welcomed change. However, it did spring an oil leak during the event. I haven’t deciphered where its coming from yet, but I expect its the oil ring in the neck of the dip-stick. Hopefully I can take care of that this weekend along with replacing the breaks, and changing the tranny/diff fluids with Redline. That may be easier said than done though, as Im pretty slammed with freelance work. I still need a clone.

Since I write about Twitter last year, Im please to say that many more automotive people are jumping on board. And to my surprise, there are quite a few Formula D drivers with accounts. There’s a few that aren’t utilizing the service (looking at your Dmac) but perhaps that’ll change. Regardless, Ive put together a small list of Formula D drivers with Twitter accounts. Be sure to follow them during this weekend’s Round 3 at Wallspeedway in Jersey.

Jarod DeAnda aka “JRod”
The voice of Formula D. If you have ever attended a FD event, then you’ve heard this guy on the mic.

Joon Maeng
Driver of the infamous green S13.5 and by far one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. And one hell of a driver. He’s coming off a 4th place finish at FD Round 2: Atlanta. You can check out his website as well: http://www.joonmaeng.com/. He updates several times a week.

Tommy suell
Pilots the Allegiant AE86. Those that already know his profession will see the humor; or lack there of. Tommy has been quite the blogger as well. http://tommysuell.com/

Got some work done on the car this weekend. First was the little “home depot” lip. When most people do a “home depot” lip they use garden liner. I did the same, but didn’t like it at all. It was flimsy, wavy, and just didn’t work. So I went browsing through the store again and came across what you see here. Its a think, plastic liner that is typically used for a screen doors. As you can see, it looks much better, is much stronger and doesn’t create any kind of wrinkles or waves.

Next on the list was to makes some progress with the vinyl wrap. I had a few places that I missed on the driver’s side. So I tackled those and then completed the passenger side door.

I also got around to repainting our wheels. I really been digging black wheels with the red pin stripe around the outer edge. And since Im poor….. I created my own. Black paint and red electrical tape can work wonders on 20 year old wheels. Have a look.

Are black wheels on a drift car cliche? Yes. Do I give a damn? No.
Overall, I think the car is turning out to be pretty gangster considering Ive spent less than $100 and couple of trips to Home Depot. DIY is a way of life.

I have a deadline coming up at the end of the week, so expect to see a lot more updates over the next few days.

This past weekend South East Drift hosted their second “Drivers Only” private day at Turner Field in Atlanta. In typical form, they had a few grid. I was there on behalf of Drift411 since we were providing insurance for the event. Overall it was a good event. I got to yell at a bunch of Brazilian guys who lacked common sense and a photographer who thought he was invincible because he took pics in Paris. LOL. And of course, its always enjoyable to watch drivers progress over the course of the day. My only complaint was the weather. The ambient temperature wasn’t too bad. The wind, however, was brutal.

The pictures below were taking by me, Howard Smith, Shawn Smith, and Nick. I apologize in advanced for not taking as many pics. I ran out of battery power; 6 batteries in 15mins to be exact.

Matt Foerst (Austin Pictured) have several mechanical issues. Two laps into the event, he broke his custom stearing knuckles. Later he broke some ring lands in the motor, cutting his day short.

Tyler’s luck wasn’t much better either. He blew a coupler which Howard helped him fix, to be followed by his 10″-wide wheels rubbing on his wire harness.

driftMechaniks give back to the community; sorta.

This one is for my Dad. If I owned a bike, I would want it to look like this minus the Batman emblems.
